cottage The Cottage:
The cottage area represents the quintessential image of Ireland to most Americans. Stone wall, floor, and fireplace, are important elements to images of rural Ireland.

With this in mind stone was imported from Valentia Island in County Kerry which had been used for centuries in the south of Ireland in building and roofing of cottages. In addition, stone masons from Ireland came to Boulder to ensure the stone work would be identical to what would be found in Ireland.

fireplace The Cottage is a popular room because of the homey feeling is has. It was not uncommon for families living in rural areas (where it was too small for a Full-service pub) to buy a barrel of beer and tap it in their "sitting room" giving it the feel of a friend's living room.

Our second fireplace is in this room with pieces of peat nearby. Peat is also called turf and is the traditional fuel source of Ireland.
